Allow us this one-minute to introduce ourselves…

We are "The Coachmen", a family-based quartet from the City of Staunton, in the heart of Virginia's Shenandoah Valley region. Please take time to peruse our site to learn more about our members: Bob Campbell, Chris Campbell, Pete Campbell, John Lane, read our newsletter or listen samples of our music, and see a schedule of where we will be performing in the future. Our mission is simple but important, to provide audiences with uplifting, family-oriented music and entertainment. It is with honor and dignity that we dedicate our lives to this mission. We appreciate your minute and please return soon.

The Groups Formation

Rich in family harmony, original instrumentation, and innovative songwriting, the Coachmen have built up a sizeable following throughout the state of Virginia with their down-home melodies. Armed with a roster of talent with roots in southern gospel, country, and pop, the group refers to its sound as a country/Americana influenced style of gospel and positive, middle-of-the-road music. The group is officially headquartered in Staunton, VA, in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley. The sound of the Coachmen is one that was developed through decades of family music, and their story is indeed one for the record.

The group originally formed in the 1968 as a Country/Western show band, and toured as an opening act for many popular Nashville acts of the era, including Jack Green, Freddie Hart, Connie Smith, Mac Wiseman and Jerry Lee Lewis. They gained regional popularity through the Wheeling Jamboree (WV), then a "minor league" show for the Grand Ole Opry. Frustrated with their inability to break through the Nashville door, the seventies marked the end of the show band, however, the beginning of a new musical era. Over the next two decades, numerous country, bluegrass, pop, and gospel acts would offspring in Virginia from the original group.

In 1994, the original group was invited to reunite and perform for the 25th and last Happy Birthday USA Celebration hosted by the Statler Brothers in Staunton. The original cast was joined by a second generation of Coachmen and achieved the attendance record for an afternoon show at the event. While the reunited group continued to perform on a temporary basis, four members decided to keep the Coachmen name alive and comprise the quartet as it is known today.
